This class is for actors who have taken Audition Foundations with Mara Casey and been cleared to move into Tier II. If you believe that you're qualified to begin your journey at The Forge in Tier II, please feel free to get in touch. PREREQUISITE- Read provided copy of How To Audition on Camera by Sharon Bialy and have questions ready. WEEK 1- Welcome and Q&A. Explaining different types of television and film roles. Formatting your resume for different markets. What to research before your audition. Introduction to AA, Casting networks, Backstage, We Audition. Discussion of How To Audition on Camera by Sharon Bialy. WEEK 2- Continued discussion from week 1(if needed. Co-star cold-reads. Breaking down sides as a class. Wardrobe. What questions should you be answering for yourself prior to your audition? The importance of tone. WEEK 3- Memorized co-star and all things technical (eyeline, lighting, your reader, etc). What’s a “space hotdog”? On- camera improv using “space hotdogs”. WEEK 4- Environment vs. designated self-tape area vs. paying a coach. On-camera emotional work discovering your strengths and recognizing areas that WEEK 5- Mock audition with memorized large co-star/small g.s., class will take turns auditioning and casting each other. WEEK 6- Class viewing of memorized “mock auditions” with feedback. Who is Mara Casey? Mara has worked professionally as an actress, casting director and teacher. She is best known for casting the series Gilmore Girls (with partner Jami Rudofsky) and years of pilots that never saw the light of day. In 2008, she started an actor's collective which offered eclectic acting and writing class content to professional actors and featured industry professionals (James Gunn, Danny Strong, Wendi McClendon-Covey) guesting and leading some classes. Some of Mara's collective members include Jerrika Hinton, Katie Lowes, Elizabeth Chomko and Sean Gunn. In 2017, she became an adjunct faculty member in the BFA Acting For Film and Television Department at the performing arts college Hussian College In Studio (formerly known as Studio School). Additionally, three of her short plays have been produced by Collaboraction Theatre's Sketchbook Series. Mara splits her time between Los Angeles and Chicago.
